Connecting you to your True Essence to Live a Happy, Abundant Life

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to world-renowned infectious disease experts, my family was sent to the United States when I was nine years old. An immigrant in a foreign land filled with unknowns, I quickly developed an anxiety disorder. However, in 1980 anxiety was not a recognized term, especially in children. I quickly adapted to American life, learning English and excelling in Academics, especially Science (a genetic gift). But a low level of anxiety was always there, masked, disguised but there.

I longed to understand the mind as much as the human body and plunged into a double major in Philosophy and Biology with a minor in Molecular Biology. A fascinating journey led me to Cornell Medical School, only to realize the type of Doctor I imagined being wasn’t possible in the current medical system. I plunged back into academics pursuing a Masters in Biomedical Science. Loving the courses and excelling in every class, the laboratory work left me empty and unmotivated. I could not imagine a future of being in a lab all day devoid of nature, human interaction, and vibrancy. I admired my parents’ dedication and endless hours spent in the lab, but this was not for me!

Most of my “free” time always involved movement from dancing to aerobics, you would find me moving my body (even while waiting for cell cultures to mature!). I realized movement was a healing modality and in 1995, I took over my favorite women’s fitness center and felt I was in my element. It was the first time I learned to follow my heart and instincts instead of my mind.

As I continued to thrive in fitness and working with women one-on-one through personal training, I kept searching for different forms of movement and healing. In 1997, I took my first Yoga and Pilates classes. Another turning point in life as I discovered such fluid ways to move and bring healing.

Fast forward to April 2000 as I packed up my entire life in pursuit of learning Yoga and Pilates from all the masters I could find. I settled in Philadelphia to work and learn from my first mentor, Janine Galatti at Alternative Health and Fitness, a thriving yoga and pilates studio in the heart of Rittenhouse Square. The entire world of alternative modalities was introduced to me from Ayurveda to Yoga. This was the world I was looking for all along! I found my groove. I honed my teaching skills with a Master in Education from Chestnut Hill College and brought my fresh skills back to Maryland, my first USA home state.

The next 20 years were spent traveling, studying, and exploring the world to delve deeper into all this wisdom. I traveled to India in 2005 for the first time, with my Yoga teacher, Shiva Rea which confirmed my love of these intelligent, divine practices. I have continued yearly trips to India, spending most of my time in the Himalayas and Rishikesh to explore the authentic roots of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Longing for formal Ayurveda education, as I am a clinician and science lover at heart, I attended the Kripalu School of Ayurveda in 2005-06. Our faculty was filled with the greats of Ayurveda: Vasant Lad, Robert Svoboda, David Frawley, Jay Apte, and more. My love of Ayurveda blossomed. A few years later I had the honor to attend The Ayurvedic Insitute with Vasant Lad as a student to then be hired as the Director of Ayurveda Yoga.

In 2017 the ocean, the waves, the surf, and the lifestyle I experienced on various retreats called me strongly. I once again followed my heart to radical change. I moved to Costa Rica. Every cell in my body called me to be here. My heart belongs to India, but my body thrives in Costa Rica.

Today at 53, I am on a mission to wholeheartedly embrace and share the essence of healthful living.

A lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, moving, and fusing ancient Vedic practices to modern life fuels my energy and well-being.

The toolset I have developed for health success and well-being is one I openly share, guiding you to uncover your unique formula for a fulfilling, joyful, balanced life.

In service and good will I welcome you to this space of holistic well-being.

I’m Maria Eugenia Garré, connecting you to vibrant and balanced well-being in every facet of life.
